A basic overview of Enterprise Risk Management, software, and risk minimization techniques.

Description: This course gives a basic overview of Enterprise Risk Management, a management tool enabling corporate and nonprofit managers to measure and manage risks to the organization. ERM—including crisis management—is a core management competency in both profit and nonprofit  organizations.

This four-hour course examines four types of enterprise risk: Strategic risks, including threats to intellectual property and reputation; Operational Risks, including cyber security and risks within expanded supply chains; Financial Risks, including credit rating and access to funds; Legal and Compliance Risks, including complying with Dodd Frank and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

The course also surveys ERM software, and techniques to minimize risk, as well as the CPA’s role in implementing ERM under ISO 31000 and the COSO 2014 Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework standards.

The course format is discussion-based and participants will focus on cases illustrating how both businesses and nonprofits utilize ERM to cope with various types of risks.
